Intern-Trainee Program 2007-2008 Training Year
• Non-profit mental health agency established in 1945
• Clients from diverse ethnic groups, primarily low-
income, with wide range of
presenting problems
• Training program for MFT and social work students
for over 20 years
• Pre- and post-doctoral psychology training program
since 2004
• Weekly Training and Supervision:
o Consultation in child and family therapy (Tuesdays
12:30-2 p.m.)
o Staff development on advanced topics related to
adult treatment (Fridays 9:15-10:45 a.m.)
o Team meetings with licensed staff, interns, and
trainees including outside consultants (see team
descriptions for times)
o Individual (one hour) and group supervision (two
hours)
• Psychological testing program for pre- and post-
doctoral psychology interns;
two hours weekly group
supervision
• Psychodynamic orientation
o Training in assessment and case formulation from a
psychodynamic perspective
o Training in treatment planning incorporating
techniques from psychodynamic, cognitive-
behavioral, crisis-intervention, biopsychosocial, and
psychoeducational
perspectives
• Five specialized programs:
o Child, Adult and Family Counseling (MFT, MSW,
pre- and post-doctoral)
o Substance Abuse Recovery Program (MFT, pre-
and post-doctoral)
o Childhood Trauma Program (MFT, MSW)
o Pregnancy and Early Parenting Center (MFT)
o Suicide Prevention & Community Counseling (MFT;
accepts trainees in
first field placement)
• Opportunities for school-based placement and
working in FSA satellite offices in Novato, Canal area
of San Rafael, and Sausalito
• Training year September 1-August 31 (4 weeks
vacation permitted)
• One-year commitment 15-20 hours per week; varies
somewhat by program
• Stipend for bilingual Spanish-speaking interns
